The Project
PCI Ltd were commissioned by this long standing, repeat client to install a new CT Scanner, replacing back office areas of ED on a D+B basis. The trust’s aims for the project were to improve ED processing time and flow through and out of the department, while generally increasing scanning capacity for the wider trust.
We took the architectural, structural and M+E design from RIBA Stage 3 to Stage 4 – utilizing some new consultants to the scheme and also some retained from Stage 3 due to familiarity with both ourselves and the Trust from years of work on site.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
- M+E Design Process – a lot of detail to iron out in a short period of time.
- Working with 3rd party installers/ contractor of CT scanner and ensuring site was 100% ready for them upon arrival.
- Delivery of plant / framework to the roof which required a stringently managed road closure in several phases.
- Undertaking construction activities around live departments – at times we had works above, below, alongside and around our works which took a lot of co-ordination to ensure that there was no impact to their schedules.
- Unearthed an electrical supply capacity issue early in the project, worked with the Trust to come to a solution to ensure that the project could stay on track.
The Works
PCI Ltd undertook all construction activities on site, bar the installation of the CT scanner itself but still co-ordinated with and oversaw this part of the works.
From bespoke bed heads and cabinetry, to the extensive steel platforms and plant enclosures on the roof, we lived and breathed every element of this project and the end product truly is a sight to behold.
