The Project
The works at Northwold Primary School were one of several large-scale concurrent projects for PCI that without fail needed to be completed by the end of the summer holidays 2022, in time for the children’s return. Of particular importance, the project involved complete system replacement of the building’s heating; including but not limited to boilers, radiators, emitters and pipework across three storeys. In addition, air conditioning cassettes were installed in every classroom to provide comfort for staff and pupils and provide the ideal learning environment.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
- For this project in particular, timescale was an enormous issue with a massive amount of work to complete within the provided programme.
- PCI worked flexibly and around the clock to meet the needs of the school resulting in an overwhelmingly successful result and meeting of desired completion date.
- The bulk of the messy works was completed in the summer holidays, with other works undertaken in the lead up to and following summer to ensure that all heating was fully functioning for October Half Term, when the school usually fired up their boilers for winter.
- We understood the schools want to decarbonize for both ethical and financial grounds and managed to design them a system incorporating Air Source Heat Pumps to assist them in their push towards carbon neutrality.
The Works
- We had to strip out all of the existing cast iron radiators and associated pipework. The project involved complete system replacement of the building’s heating.
- In addition, air conditioning cassettes were installed in every classroom to provide comfort for staff and pupils and provide the ideal learning environment.
- All pipework was lagged and finished with Isogenopak to leave a safe and clean finish.
- PCI undertook all making good, boxing and fire stopping works to leave a compliant, presentable project.
