Duration:
8 weeks
The Project
- PCI were engaged with for this project to replace an existing, aged temporary classroom solution that had long outstayed its welcome.
- The Trust were looking for a sleek, modern modular replacement to provide a nicer learning environment.
Summer schemes were in duration throughout the summer period, so we had to maintain good segregation was kept and ongoing liaisons with the provider were critical to ensure both their progress and ours through summer.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
- The school did not have any spare classroom capacity so this project needed to be completed in the summer holidays (with a couple of weeks run up at before in which they were able to take advantage of summer weather to do some teaching outside). This left us with a very tight timescale to complete the works.
- Existing access to the school was not acceptable for the crane entry so we had to engage with the local authority to provide a temporary bellmouth entry to site and remove security fencing and established conifer hedging to provide the access, re-instating upon project completion.
- Modules had to be lifted in to place via a large crane so we had to get necessary documents and lift plans in place to ensure that this was undertaken in a safe manner.
The Works
- PCI Ltd undertook and oversaw all works involved in this project – key features include:
- Demolition and disposal of existing temporary classroom block
- New modular building finished with Oak cladding to provide a more pleasant aesthetic
- All finishing internally and externally including hard landscaping
- Full package of M+E works incorporating lighting, power, data, plumbing and drainage to bathrooms/ kitchenettes
