The Project
The aim of the project was to remove asbestos and glazed roofing panels, to provide a more energy efficient and insulated composite roof over the warehouse units, to assist with the clients environmental improvements.
New insulated composite panels were installed across the whole warehouse roof, along with flashings and new insulated guttering.
The sheer size of the panels, meant that we were unable to hold all materials onsite at one time. This meant relying on phased delivery, which came with minor delays due to manufacturing and logistical issues.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
The warehouse was in use throughout the project which means we needed to create safe working areas throughout phased workings.
When changing panels over the workshop, more care was needed as the working area was underneath. Walkie Talkies were sued for communicative purposes to ensure that everybody was working on the same page, and to keep everyone safe.
Due to increment weather, for the safety of the contractors, some days were unworkable which led to out of hours working and weekly changes to the programme. This also required temporary waterproofing over the ridge sections as these cannot be installed until all panels are in situ.
The Works
Given the complexity and size of the project, we implemented rigorous protective measures—including dual-level safety nets for both debris containment and fall protection.
Every stage of the asbestos removal was carried out in full compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012: from air quality monitoring to controlled disposal and contamination prevention protocols.
